Join me during a run along the Barlow Road, part of the historic Oregon Trail in the Mount Hood National Forest in April 2024.

This was one of the final sections of the Oregon Trail, and for many it was only another challenge to overcome. And many people actually walked the entire Trail, often barefoot. I love connecting directly with history, and so I too made some steps barefoot on the Barlow, making contact with events now 150 years past.

If you go, aim for summer, and go on foot or by bike or even horseback as the road itself is unmaintained and quite narrow in many places.

I found a thrilling connection with Oregon history, a wonderful place to run in the woods, and, as always, ants.
