I often go from a seated position to downward facing dog or plank, or even all the way to standing using a spiral action. With this transition I can move from a seated position to downward facing dog, standing poses, plank pose etc and it really opens everything up to more possibilities for movement. Give it a try!

THE KEY to this is what leg is in front. So right now my right leg is in front. So I can really only go to the left. I start by taking the left hand to the floor behind me. As I push down, I lift the hips up and I spiral the hips around into downward facing dog.

And then if I want to end up with the other leg in front (the left leg), I'm going to turn to the left, so it's the right hand and I bring behind me. Then I bend the knees, turn the knees to the left, keep going, turning, turning until the left foot is in front

Remember that whichever foot's in front. I need to turn my body in the opposite direction.
