This video is perfect for nurses who want to learn everything you need to know about Norepinephrine. 💊👩‍⚕️

In this video, I will teach you about Norepinephrine pharmacology, including their mechanism of action, types, indications, adverse effects, contraindications and special considerations. 👩‍🏫🏫

Norepinephrine is a sympathomimetic and vasopressor, mainly acting as an alpha-1 agonist with mild beta-1 agonist activity. Binding to alpha-1 receptors causes vasoconstriction, whereas binding to beta-1 receptors causes a positive inotropic and chronotropic effect. It is also known as levophed, noradrenaline and norepi. It is used to treat severe hypotension, especially when caused by septic shock. Adverse effects include chest pain or discomfort, anxiety, and phlebitis at the IV site. It should not be used for hypotension without appropriate fluid volume replacement. It is given as a continuous IV infusion either in mcg/min or mcg/kg/min and titrated to reach a target MAP or blood pressure. Monitor the peripheral IV for extravasation, as it can cause tissue necrosis. An arterial line is preferred over NIBP for blood pressure monitoring.
