This video is perfect for nurses who want to learn everything you need to know about DOPamine. 💊👩⚕️
In this video, I will teach you about DOPamine pharmacology, including their mechanism of action, types, indications, adverse effects, contraindications and special considerations. 👩🏫🏫
Dopamine acts as a dopamine, alpha-1, and beta-1 agonist. At low doses, it causes renal vasodilation by binding to dopamine receptors; At moderate doses, it causes a positive inotropic and chronotropic effect by binding to beta-1 receptors; and at high doses, it causes vasoconstriction by binding to alpha-1 receptors. It is also known as Intropin and Dopastat. At low doses, it is used to improve renal perfusion in shock; at moderate doses, it can treat heart failure and cardiogenic shock; and at high doses, it can treat severe hypotension. Adverse effects include tachyarrhythmias, chest pain or discomfort, and hyper- or hypotension. It should not be used with tachyarrhythmias. During infusion, heart rate, rhythm, blood pressure, and urine output should be monitored. Watch for extravasation with a peripheral IV, as it can cause tissue necrosis. This is treated with phentolamine.
