Internal hip rotation is limited in a lot of people. This is a easy test to determine your internal hip rotation and figure out if it is coming from a joint restriction or from poor trunk control. When you are sitting on a surface, you can test with a neutral spine and pelvis and compare with an extended spine and anterior pelvis to see if there is a difference.

Internal hip rotation - when restricted, can pull you into a bad or unstable position when squatting. Restricted internal hip rotation can be caused by a joint restriction or poor trunk control.
Sit on a surface so your hips and knees are 90-90 degrees. Rotate your thighs in - your feet will go out.
You can overextend your lower back when doing this to see if there are any changes. Most of the time, limited internal hip rotation is from poor trunk control.
