This video shows you how to release your popliteus and upper calf muscles. You will need a small pac pipe or broomstick.
The popliteus muscle is used for unlocking the knees when walking, by medially rotating the tibia as the knee initiates flexion. When the leg goes into extension, the opposite happens to help "lock" the knee. It is also attached to the lateral meniscus, and pulls it posterior (back) during knee flexion to prevent it from being crushed.

This mobility piece is to release the populates and upper calf muscles. This one can be painful, so ease into it.You will need a small pac pipe or broomstick. For this move, you will get on all fours and place the broomstick high up in the crease of the knees. Then, you will slowly sit back toward your heels until you feel tenderness. Continue to breathe throughout the movement. If you are able to tolerate it, you can add a little extra pressure down on the broomstick with your hands and slowly rock side to side. Do this move for 1-2 minutes.
