Side planks are one of my go to exercises for engaging and isometrically strengthening key muscles like the gluteus medius, adductor complex, quadratus lumborum, and tensor fasciae latae. Aside from being a great way to hammer the obliques, They specifically target the lateral subsystem, which supports side-to-side stability and is often overlooked in traditional workouts.

I prefer the bottom leg bent like in the video above because I find it results in better positions for most people and as I explain ☝🏽it also allows for you to emphasize bottom or top leg pressure 👉🏼 which if you haven’t tried you should 🔥

⚡️Side Plank Benefits⚡️
👉🏼 *Muscle Engagement:* Directly strengthens critical stabilizing muscles of the hip, pelvis, and lower back.
👉🏼 *Lateral Subsystem Focus:* Enhances balance and functional movement by training underutilized pathways.
👉🏼 *Progressive Variations:* There are dozens of variations and progressions starting from this basic version

⁉️How often⁉️
I have most clients hitting side plank progressions 1-2x/week
