The letter 'r' of I Care = Responding to Patient.
This video reviews how to validate patients feeling and why this is important.
The validation of concerns/pain-related thoughts and feelings for patients may lead to reductions in negative affect. Emotional validation is the process of learning about, understanding and expressing acceptance of another person's emotional experience. Emotional validation is distinguished from emotional invalidation, in which another person's emotional experiences are rejected, ignored, or judged. Validation in clinician-patient relationship means that when the patient or family member tells you about their day, or shares their feelings, you stay with them in the moment, honoring their experience. It's a way of showing you understand and accept their thoughts and feelings just as they are.
