The letter ‘r’ of I Care = Responding to Patient. Negative words used in healthcare. What you meant to say and what the patient understood. Words have power. Words can discourage or motivate. What is the patients' perceptions on certain words we use.
This video reviews the most commonly-used word by healthcare professionals that are linked to negative perceptions by patients and families. Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble.
