Ambassador of the UAE to the US Yousef Al Otaiba highlights the progress and success seen through UAE-US collaborations over the past three decades. Since beginning this partnership, the two countries have been united in security, trade and culture, driven by a shared commitment to building a better future. The cultural exchange between Emiratis and Americans is imperative to strengthening ties as it encourages innovation and knowledge sharing. This exchange, in turn, improves cultural understanding, global health, education, religious tolerance and inclusion.
The cultural exchange is perhaps most prominently seen through UAE partnerships with US institutions including the Cleveland Clinic, NYU Abu Dhabi and the Smithsonian Institution. Additionally, the US has supported the UAE in various milestones such as progress in space exploration, the Abraham Accord agreement and expanding the country’s support of the Special Olympics movement — of which Al Otaiba serves on the Board of Directors.
Emiratis and Americans are close partners in strengthening security and stability regionally and around the world. The UAE is the only Arab country to participate with the US in 6 military coalitions and hosts 5,000 US service members. Additionally, the UAE and US share a robust economic relationship, with bilateral trade having exceeded $24 billion in 2019.
While the UAE and US are continually seeking ways to further their strategic partnership, the current strength of the relationship is reflected in the Ambassador’s dialogue. Looking forward, the efforts from the UAE Embassy and US institutions will help hone this partnership and undoubtedly lead to a better, even more united future.
