Celebrating the 5th Anniversary of the UAE Consulate in Houston
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and United States (U.S.) have developed a strategic, collaborative bond to promote peace and prosperity over more than 50 years of partnership. Over the course of this partnership, the UAE has established four consulates across the U.S.
The fourth consulate was established in 2018 in Houston, Texas. To mark the occasion, officials from the UAE and Houston came together to celebrate. Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba was among the attendees. The Ambassador also participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony alongside UAE Minister of State Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Energy Suhail Mazroui, UAE Consul General in Houston Saeed Al Mehairi and Houston City Council Member Amanda Edwards.
As stated by Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba at the consulate ceremony, “Houston feels like a second home to Emiratis.” So when Houston was affected by Hurricane Harvey in 2017, the UAE stepped in to provide support for rebuilding communities. During the course of the city’s recovery efforts, the UAE gifted $6.5 million to the Greater Houston Community Foundation to assist with community revitalization, homelessness relief, library services and public health expansion in the Houston area.
