As usual England breezed through the World Cup qualification process, dropping just four points in total and ending the campaign eight points clear of 2nd placed Slovakia to see them safely through to Russia 2018. Now they look to hone their skills against the formidable duo of Germany and Brazil in these friendly affairs, but they will be without a number of key players on Friday.
Tottenham trio Harry Winks, Dele Alli, and Harry Kane are all out of the squad, whilst Fabian Delph, Raheem Sterling, and Jordan Henderson all withdrew recently due to injuries. This will leave some openings for the lesser seen players, with Tammy Abraham and Ruben Loftus-Cheek both hoping to make their debuts and Marcus Rashford likely to start.
England’s last outing was a rather stale 1-0 win away to Lithuania to make it four wins on the bounce, but their performances against the better quality sides leave a lot to be desired. They have faced Spain, Germany, and France in friendlies since their shock Euro 2016 exit, drawing twice and losing once and shipping two or more goals against both France and Spain.
