Both Poland and Uruguay booked their ticket to Russia last month. They could both perhaps be put in the category of dangerous outsiders when it comes to the finals. They both have genuine world class strikers but are perhaps a bit light in other areas to compete for the biggest prize.
With the firepower on display, we should see goals at both ends here. Robert Lewandowski was simply sensational for Poland during qualifying. He hit 16 goals in 10 matches to fire the Poles to top spot in Group E. That equated to 57% of his teams’ goals. The Bayern man now has 51 international goals and backing Lewandowski to score anytime looks good here given he also has 11 goals in 11 games in the Bundesliga this term.
Poland have looked vulnerable at the back this season though, so there’s hope for Uruguay’s forwards. The Poles conceded 4 times in Denmark in September and have only kept 1 clean sheet in their last 7 internationals.
