A deep run in the Champions League is at the forefront of RB Leipzig’s intentions for this season, but their ambitions took a huge blow in a 3-1 defeat on the road to Porto during the week. The only consolation the Red Bulls were able to bring back from Portugal is that top scorer Timo Werner was able to find the back of the net for the first time since September. Leipzig return their focus to the Bundesliga on Saturday, facing Hannover 96 for the first time in the club’s history.
Hannover 96’s return to the German top flight has been an impressive one. Hannover have conceded just nine goals – the 2nd fewest in the league behind Bayern Munich (7) – despite missing a few key players. The return of talisman Salif Sane has been a huge boost for the North Germans, and heading into this off the back of an impressive, though somewhat unexpected, 4-2 win at home to then league leaders Borussia Dortmund will do nothing but make them feel anything is possible.
From a betting perspective, backing goals at both ends has to be worth consideration. Last season’s runners up RB Leipzig are perhaps one of the most talented, youthful and attack-minded teams in the world at present, led up front by prodigal forward Timo Werner. However, at the back, RB Leipzig haven’t been quite as meticulous, and the visitors are not shy of finding the back of the net themselves. Hannover started with two up front (Jonathas and Bebou) for the first time this season against Borussia Dortmund, and we doubt they’ll mess with the formula after slotting 4 goals past them.
