Iceland have confirmed their surprise run to the Quarter Finals of Euro 2016 was no fluke in recent months by qualifying for the 2018 World Cup Russia. They once again humbled several bigger nations and they’ve performed consistently well for several years now. A friendly against an out of sorts Czech Republic is certainly a game they look capable of winning.
They come into this game with 6 wins from their last 7 internationals. That includes assured victories to nil over the Republic of Ireland, Croatia, Ukraine and Turkey, with the latter 3 all coming in World Cup qualifiers. Clearly they are well drilled and well-organised at the back but they do have some firepower at the other end.
Everton’s Gylfi Sigurðsson remains their talisman in the final third while Burnley’s Johann Berg Guðmundsson has also netted in each of their last two games. Both players are in this squad. With just one uncapped player in the 26, it seems experimentation will be kept to a minimum as they will be keen to keep the momentum going as they start to think about Russia next summer.
