MediaMonkey on WinXP (VMware Workstation 17)
By the middle 2000's, MediaMonkey arrived on the music playback scene as well. Now, on one hand, MediaMonkey has all the features that one would have expected from the software of this type at the time. The base program is free. However, MediaMonkey has a "Gold" version that unlocks various features. As someone who use to use this software eons back, this media player has some really powerful music organizing capabilities. As someone who has ripped a lot of vinyl in the past, I used MediaMonkey to organize my collections. Now granted, the music tagging is something that is a part of most other media players as well. However the tools on MediaMonkey felt much more intuitive.
Out of the media players, MediaMonkey probably has the most powerful tools for organizing large music collections and music tagging capabilities. One could even compare MediaMonkey as the "PhotoShop" of media players as it just had so many powerful tools and plugins. However, that could have also been a problem as if one preferred not to have the whole kitchen sink. Due to all of its features, it felt very bloated. The only thing more bloated than MediaMonkey is iTunes. One practically needs a supercomputer to run iTunes. While its tools are very capable for those who prefer to do there own tagging, just for general consumption, the more lightweight media players would do, like VLC. MediaMonkey is still being updated and sold today.
