OK, I had to play this game. So, anyone who watched the 3DMark99 benchmark knows that there is a high-speed futuristic racing scene where high-speed vehicles with turbo-charged turbines go really fast on a track with sharp turns and dives, reminiscent of WipeOut and F-Zero. Well, this game is basically that benchmark as a whole game. In Grand-Prix Evolution, you play a driver controlling an anti-gravity hovercraft that can travel speeds up to 1200 kh/m on a magnetic tracks on Earth, the Moon, and other locations in the Solar System in the year 2100.
I admit that while GPE isn't Wipeout, F-Zero, or Star Wars Racer, it still has its charms and is completely serviceable, and besides, Grand Prix Evolution is a good test for SoftGPU, which definitely plays well without issue. The FPS does dip at times, but for the vast majority of the race, is very stable, and is definitely playable. However, the controls of the game aren't the best, so one still likely steer off the track on multiple occasions.
VirtualBox 7.0 is virtualizing a multimedia gaming configuration with a single CPU core allocated to it (host is an AMD Ryzen 5 5500 6-Core Processor Running at 4.2HGHz), 512MB's of RAM, a VESA 1.2 Compatible Display Adapter with 3D Acceleration enabled via Passthrough with SoftGPU. An AC'97 Intel 82801AA Audio Device is installed with the appropriate drivers. Also installed is an AMD PCnet NIC. Windows 98SE is installed in the VM.
