MS Access and Visio 2003 On VMware Player (WinXP)
Now, I haven't used Visio that much because my flow-charting abilities are what one could say...crap. Visio, which was originally developed by Visio Software (Shapeware) before it was acquired by Microsoft in 2000. Even before the acquisition, Visio had one a lot of critical acclaim from users who saw how faithful the Visio program was to the Windows UI. Thus, after the product was acquired by Microsoft, it integrated nicely into Microsoft's product portfolio. Visio was generally sold as a stand-alone program. However, with the professional edition of Office 2003, Visio was included as part of the installation.
Now, I see this as a bit more problematic as Visio's usage is going to be more niche compared to the core Office applications. For example, for developers, there would be a important tool for Visio as one can create programming flowcharts or systems analyst creating network or computer guide to design new computer systems. Thus, one could argue that it would make more sense to include the program as a part of Microsoft Visual Studio rather than Office. However, one can make the safe assumption that these users who have Visual Studio installed on there PC's are also going to have Office installed as well. However, Visio is a very powerful application that allows for powerful flowcharting capabilities.
Of course, the standard version of Office didn't include Access as well. However, like with the previous versions of Office, Office 2003 Professional includes Access as well. Access is still well...Access. One can create powerful databases, making use of VBA, SQL, and various ODBC containers, along with various other capabilities. One is scratching the surface when it comes with Access, which is in my opinion, is the most powerful application in the Office suite.
VMware Player 17 is virtualizing a x86 Multimedia PC with 2 cores allocated to it, 3GB's of RAM, and a VESA-compatible display adapter with 3D passthrough enabled. Windows is running at the screen resolution of 1024 by 768, 32-bit color depth. A Ethernet Adapter is installed along with sound support. Microsoft Windows XP SP3 is installed.
