Russia's Urals region has been rocked by a meteorite explosion in the stratosphere on Friday.
Fragments fell to Earth and the impact wave damaged several buildings and blew out thousands of windows amid frigid winter weather. Hundreds are seeking medical attention for minor injuries.
Vladimir Stepanov, Head of the Emergency Ministry Crisis Center says all resources have been deployed:
"All the resources of the Emergency Ministry and the Russian System of Prevention and Response to Emergency Situations including over 20,000 personnel have been deployed to address and investigate the situation on the sites. As of 10:30am the reports came in saying that the background radiation levels on the affected Russian territory are within the norm and that the power supply, communications, transportation and essential utility systems and facilities are fully functional."
Up to 500 people sought medical attention as a result of the incident, according to the Russian Interior Ministry.
Vladimir Stepanov said no serious injuries have been reported, with most of the injuries caused by broken glass and some people suffering minor concussion.
"As of now, a few dozen citizens have checked in with injuries caused by the shattered glass. These are minor injuries and medical aid is being provided in an outpatient regime... All the healthcare facilities are ready to provide medical aid to the population on demand."
