Feb 3, 2013 Russia_Stalingrad is symbol of Russian invincibility -- Putin
Russian President Vladimir Putin gave a speech at a concert in Volgograd on Saturday marking 70 years since the Soviet Union's victory in the Battle of Stalingrad.
"Our allies in the World War II recognized the tremendous value of this victory as a key factor in the outcome of the World War II... The Battle of Stalingrad was a decisive point both in the Great Patriotic War and the entire World War II."
The president said the victory remains a "symbol of the Russian people's unity and invincibility".
"As long as we keep loving and cherishing ourselves, our history, our legacy, our language and culture, Russia shall remain invincible."
After the concert the president met with Stalingrad veterans, local schoolchildren, and members of history clubs.
The celebrations in Volgograd ended with fireworks at the Mamayev Kurgan memorial complex.
