Judith E Martin creates large, poetic quilts that combine circular drawn forms with the long tradition of North American bed quilts. Working entirely by hand, her slow stitching process allows deeply felt emotions to surface through cloth, making visible the profound feelings that arise during the act of stitching.
The artist lives and works on an island in Canada, where she stitches with a hoop beside a large east-facing window. From her studio she looks out across sky and water — a quiet landscape that echoes the reflective and meditative quality of her textile work.
