Discover the powerful textile artworks of mixed media artist Batool Showghi, whose stitched pieces explore identity, memory and the resilience of women.
In this textile artist interview, Batool Showghi discusses how her work responds to themes of cultural heritage, migration and personal history. Inspired by the recent uprising of Iranian women, she has created a series of textile works exploring the theme Struggle and Rise of Women.
Batool incorporates deeply personal materials into her practice, including images of family birth certificates, passports and old photographs. Each piece is stitched and then embellished with handwritten text in Farsi, creating layered works that reflect both personal memory and wider social realities.
Her textiles speak to the struggles faced by women around the world, particularly in Iran and Afghanistan. Born in Iran, Batool moved to United Kingdom in 1985, where she continues to develop her distinctive mixed media textile practice.
