Discover the astonishing precision of quilt artist Amy Pabst, whose miniature quilts are made from thousands of tiny fabric pieces in this fascinating textile artist interview.
Author and quilter Amy Pabst grew up in rural West Virginia, where quilting has a strong cultural heritage. In this interview she discusses her exhibition Micropiecing: Quarter Million, a remarkable series of 27 miniature quilts exploring the traditional pineapple quilt block on an incredibly small scale.
Each block measures less than 2.5 cm, with individual fabric pieces narrower than 3 mm. Every quilt contains thousands of pieces, and the series was completed when the total number of fabric pieces across the works reached an extraordinary 250,000.
Amy’s quilt designs draw inspiration from antique and contemporary quilts as well as her own original compositions, combining traditional quilt history with extraordinary technical skill.
