Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev met with coal industry staff in the Siberian town of Leninsk Kuznetsky on Monday, after visiting a local mine.
Medvedev said he expects further improvements in productivity over the coming decades.
"Productivity has dramatically changed, too -- and we have discussed this today -- accomplishments normally awarded for with the Order of Hero of the Socialist Labour in the Soviet times have become common. And it is not the limit. It's quite possible to increase the figure five-fold by 2030, as far as I understand", he said.
The premier also welcomed the substantial rise in production levels over the past 14 years.
Global coal consumption "despite the falling prices and the crises as well as other problems, is growing ever faster ... Coal production has grown from 232 mln tons in 1998, or 15 years ago, to 336 mln tons in 2011."
