MIH - SPARTAN SPEAR - DIY
For the third instalment for my Stick Wars replica collection, I have made the Spartan/Spearton Spear (upgrade 1 version). This is a super easy build which anyone could make.

For the oxidised paint effect I planned to spray on charcoal and scuff it up so that it exposes the shiny metal coat bellow, but this didn’t work. I ended up using an air brush to get an “even” spread of paint, but you could just paint it on and wipe away at the edge. Oh and I found that leaving it for a few seconds and wiping at an angle resulted in the best oxidised effect.
Materials used:
EVA foam, craft foam, PVC coupling, 1.9m x 25mm oak dowel, 2x paddle pop sticks, hot glue sticks, string, multipurpose gap filler, contact cement, spray paint (grey primmer, Aluminium and clear), acrylic paint (Raw umber, lamp black, paynes grey, gold, yellow ochre, hookers green, burnt sienna, scarlet, and rose madder), water, paint thinner, PVA wood glue, and an old white shirt. Etc.
Tools used:
Plastic paddle, weight, stanley knives, rotary tool (sanding drums), hand saw, hot glue gun, masking tape, air brush (compressor and pen), brushes (foam/sponge and bristle), rags, paper, crafts cutting board, sand paper (120 grit). Etc.
Yeah sorry about extremely long absence. I had to pause this project and work another one (which resulted in a painting failure) and once I got back to this one the whole hair and paint spray weathering trick took a while to set up perfectly but didn’t work. So it took a while to regain confidence in my painting skills and have enough free time to work on my prop/replica making hobby.
