MIH – Spartan Helmet – Foam DIY
In this tutorial I will demonstrating how to construct a prop spartan helmet made from EVA foam. This piece is to be the final part to my ‘Stick Wars Spearton Cosplay’ set that I started last year, it consists of the standard sword, Lv2 spear and Lv3 shield and now the Lv2 helmet from the basic character design from the game.

Let’s Make Stuff - • How to make a RED HOOD Helmet
Materials used:
Eva foam (dark grey and red/pink), craft foam, duct tape, my head, contact cement, hot glue, Plasty dip (you can use craft/PVA glue or latex), spray paint (aluminium, gold, mat/flat black, and should have used grey primmer), acrylic paints (black and rose madder), spray varnish (flexible clear sealant, which I didn’t use), etc.
Tools used:
Stanley knife, cutting board, scissors, heat gun, brushes, squeeze bottle, pens, rulers, hot glue gun, painters tape (blue and masking), rotary tool (sanding drums, sharpening stones), an assistant to duct tape my head, etc.
This is my first Eva foam helmet, besides the pink hot glued tester, that I’ve ever done. When Professionals like Evil Ted and Punished props say that foam helmets are the hardest things to build, they are not kidding. I would say the main problem/mistake would be the gap filler, they say to use kwikSeal but it couldn’t find this so I used the “best” thing I could find which ruined the surface. Because of this I sort of lost interest in finishing this or starting another project. Eventually I got over it and began painting and it turned out better than I thought it would. So, the moral of the story is do not give up. Just because you lack necessary experiences to create something amazing, you still give it a go with your best and be satisfied with what you could achieve with your current skill level. With more practise you’ll be like a professional in no time.
Since it’s been a long time with posts, I’m going to focus on quick projects that I’m more motivated on.
