Longevity-Safe Workout for Machines Course: https://jonathan-gentry.mykajabi.com/...
Reason #1 why machines are safer and preferred for strength training compared to body weight or dumbbell exercises -
Easier to keep good FORM
Bottom line - It is easier to stay safe on machines if you are doing these high intensity workouts BY YOURSELF.
I could teach someone great form on a bodyweight squat but most clients would need much more reminders and a lot more time to perfect that exercise than the time it would take to perfect form on the leg press.
Reason #2 Why Machines are Safer and Preferred for Strength Training for Beginners Compared to Body Weight or Dumbbell Exercises -
Easier to adapt for injuries
A good example is is my starting position for the biceps curl and by creating a "hole gap" in the machine itself, it is easy to continue working the biceps to full momentary muscular failure.
Where, on free weights, it would be tougher to adjust if you had elbow pain during a free weight biceps curl.
Reason #3 - Why Machines are Safer and Preferred for Strength Training for Beginners Compared to Body Weight or Dumbbell Exercises
Isolation of target muscles
As just another example from above, if I use free weights for my biceps I will always feel my traps and everything else in the top of my back, and sometimes WAY more than I prefer.
Machines more easily allow ONLY the target muscle to be used during the workout.
Reason #4 - Why Machines are Safer and Preferred for Strength Training for Beginners Compared to Body Weight or Dumbbell Exercises
Keeping muscles engaged most efficiently
Fourth, dumbbells and resistance bands have points through the range of motion that don't contract the muscle in the important places to get the most muscle fiber recruitment. In fact, some machines are not optimized like this, either.
That's ok - I promise.
A lot of us guys in high intensity training are obsessed with the "perfect" solution, or the "perfect" environment, and to be honest and real, that's not always very realistic.
I'm here to teach you this stuff while keeping reality in mind, and understand that we all don't have access to 1 on 1 training, Nautilus machines, RenX, or MedX, which optimize the workout.
Reason #5 - Why Machines are Safer and Preferred for Strength Training for Beginners Compared to Body Weight or Dumbbell Exercises
Intensity of effort is most important
It is simply easier to reach the point of momentary muscular failure on machines (and of course even safer like I mentioned).
What really matters the most is what YOU have access to -
I picked planet fitness as my first corporate gym to teach you machines safety because... well, it's only 15 dollars a month for a membership, and it's even free if you are a senior citizen and can use silver sneakers. I'll have WAY ore other machines in the future as examples.
