The Work, in its various containers, protects itself. It always has, often by withdrawing from public view to some degree. “Sufis? What Sufis? We ain’t got no Sufis around here! Try Bukhara; I hear there’s Sufis there.”
Indeed, in the beginning of the 20th century, the Work began to move into a period of occultation. It hid itself to protect the Tradition and the Work materials that have been its sacred trust for many centuries.
Why was this done? What does this look like? What does it mean for us today?
