"Silence is the language of God; it speaks to the soul."
~ Rumi
If there is one quality we need – desperately – to cultivate, it is the ability to “step into silence”.
Without this one skill, no other practice is of much use. Without silence, there is no self observation, no self remembering, just the noise in one’s own head.
But how to cultivate silence? How do we find quiet in a noisy inner world, when the world outside our bodies tends to be so noisy too? Luckily, there are a number of ways, enough for just about anyone at any stage of self-work to begin to cultivate this essential skill.
Let’s take an hour or so to examine these techniques and see whether one or more of them may be useful for us today.
