Day 13 of Morning Pages. I performed an improv comedy set last night for the first time in about 10 years. I studied improvisation for five years in Chicago and have been teaching improv for five years in Reno, Nevada. I have been wanting to get back on stage (it was one of my yearly goals: five years studying, five years teaching...it was time), but there was a lot of fear holding me back. I attended an open house event at the theater last night and participated in some short form games. It felt good, and I wasn't in my head. I showed up with a willingness to be present and connect with others and had zero interest in engaging in any negative thoughts. I then went up on stage and did a 10-15 minute improv set with a fellow improviser. Again, I wasn't in my head: I was present and connected. When I told my friend in Texas, who is also doing morning pages, about it, she said, "It's the morning pages!" I hadn't thought about it, but it could definitely be the case. The creative freedom the morning pages appear to be granting me is amazing. To be an artist without all the stress, worry, anxiety, guilt, fear, judgment, doubt, and everything else that can block our creative channel is so nice. I never thought it was possible, but I now think anything is possible. We just have to show up, let go of all that is holding us back, and play.

Morning Pages are “three pages of longhand writing, strictly stream-of-consciousness.” Julia Cameron is the creator of the Morning Pages. She writes about them in her book THE ARTIST’S WAY.

I'm doing these for 30 days, hopefully longer. As soon as I wake up, I write whatever comes to mind. I don't care about grammar; I don't care about subject matter; I don't care about anything but writing. It takes about 20-25 minutes. If you like, feel free to join in on the fun!
Also, if you do the Morning Pages, post how it's going in the comments. I am genuinely interested and will read and respond to all comments. That is all.
